While some minority groups see satire as an attack, other groups use comedy to express strength and pride in their community (Rappoport 1). This ethnic comedy has saturated US culture, allowing minorities to produce many of the country’s prominent comedians. Televised comedy, such as stand-up comedy, is wildly popular in the US. Latino humor is built upon Latino stereotypes and references to Latino culture. Individuals who actively identify with an ethnic culture have a legitimate claim to making ethnic humor jokes. An individual may also share a similar skin color to the ethnic minority, while not affiliating themselves with it, to gain access to the cultural humor, at least in the eyes of others. This claim, or â€Å"legitimate access,† enables an individual to make jokes about a culture or cultural stereotypes without seeming tasteless or derogatory. However, individuals outside of an ethnic culture who use ethnic humor are deemed vulgar and offensive. In this paper, I will be comparing Fluffy’s â€Å"India vs Mexico† scene from The Fluffy Movie and Louis CK’s â€Å"White People† scene from his Louis CK: Live at the Beacon Theater show. While both Fluffy and Louis CK have legitimate access to Latino culture, they use it to address â€Å"white cu lture† in different ways. Therefore, we took the necessary measure to design a good poster that would be used to sensitize the public to be concerned about the welfare of the lesbians. Since I was actively involved in the design of the poster, I would like to candidly express that we did a good job. Our group succeeded in two things. One, we managed to utilize the little time we had so well. The group was properly organized because during our initial meetings, we decided to begin by choosing our leaders who would guide us and coordinate all the activities right from the beginning up to the end. I am pleased that we managed to schedule for meetings in the library and get in touch with one another through the email and telephone (Arnold Boggs, 2015). Two, we succeeded in designing a good poster that was quite educative and informative. However, we did not manage to achieve all our objectives because of certain challenges that we faced. First, we had time constraints because of conflicting time schedules. Besides, we did not fully-discuss all the issues because of lack of cooperation from some group members. Korn Korn Message or Outrage In discussing the judgement of today's rock bands, it seems as though they need to earn respect first, then do what they please. Earning respect first may sound fair but some bands are possibly doing the opposite on purpose to be more appealing to the younger generation. A band whose music, attitude, and lifestyle that falls into this rebellious nature would be KORN. The material that KORN produces is not as objectionable as it is made out to be. Issues such as the success of the band, the Family Values Tour, and their relation to teen suicide and narcotic abuse are some further aspects to look into. The first issue that is brought to one's attention would be how Korn's success has not had to depend on frequent radio and TV airplay. In true fact KORN has had barely any radio play at all, not to mention the fact that most of their videos can appear only after twelve o'clock at night. Even after the lack of airplay, KORN always appears to get their message across. Their dedicated fans have continually been there to support them, and the producers who didn't pick up on them in the first place are now wallowing in sorrow due to the bands international success. With all the success come weeks and months of ongoing touring. The Family Value's Tour issue was created on purpose to upset the parents of the younger teens who go to see the show. This tour consists of a number of different bands who are all put in the same genre of offensive, rude, vulgar, or violent lyrics. These bands just wish to express their emotions through music because they know young people enjoy it and they can understand where the bands are coming from. The Family Value's Tour is also a getaway from the pressures of real life. It can be a way to express one's self in the mass hysteria of loud thumping music and excited fans. With the response that KORN and the Family Value's gang gets from its fans (some teens have come to KORN crying and thanking them because their music has helped them through a tough time), it's hard to see how they can be looked upon as influences of violence and narcotics. KORN, along with many bands, have been directly linked to teen suicide, violence, and narcotic abuse. This is a very serious issue to consider. For one to say that someone has killed himself or herself because they listened to a song is outrageous. There must have been more underlying problems with such an individual. People are responsible for their own actions. Fred Durst from the band Limp Bizkit (a band on the Family Value's Tour) explains in an interview, The message that these bands are trying to get across is nothing harmful whatsoever. We are not telling kids to go out and kill someone, or to go out drinking and doing drugs. The music is all about emotion, and I don't think parents can understand that. This quote delivered a very true statement about what these bands are trying to say. Also one would believe that humans, even kids, would be smart enough not to take the lyrics to heart. Young teens can relate to this music as a form of relieving stress, or pain that their dail y lives give out. KORN may actually be doing society a favor by keeping a lot of kids off the streets and from committing crimes. The United States and the Soviet Union In 1945 became the two leading super powers in Europe, with the USSR predominately occupying the countries of Eastern Europe. The United States was the peace keeper of the countries of Western Europe. These two superpowers, in Germany along with France and Britain, agreed on occupied areas of land which made up a framework for four-power control over Europes land mass. In the February meetings at Yalta, in July/August at Potsdam in 1945 the two superpowers and Britain negotiated to divide the states for a land territory settlement of Europe. When the Potsdam conference became serious many differences were fought over about the future evolving status of Germany and the rest of the states of Europe. Each meeting the super powers discussed the Far East They paid very close attention to the admittance of the USSR into the war against Japan. By 1947 an east-west division of states was manifesting its head with the Soviets seriously intending on undermining democracy and establishing puppet communist regimes in Eastern Europe. In Germany the Soviets were bent on crippling their economy and creating an overwhelming influence in their territory that they wanted to occupy. The Soviets defended their desires of Europe in terms of creating anti-Fascist governments which were friendly towards the USSR and her beliefs. The Cold War was marked by the Berlin Blockade Crisis of 1948-9. The Americans concluded an alliance in Asia making a peace treaty with Japan in 1951 and 1952 and included other states such as Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, and the Philippines, within a series of alliances, while the USSR finished an alliance with China in 1950. but the Americans gradually became entangled in a more complex war in Vietnam while the war in Korea ended in 1953 in which it supported the South Vietnam against North Vietnam which the north was backed by the USSR and China. Throughout this era the two countries made policies of rearming of nuclear weapons with continued developed of long-range weapons where they could destroy each other from their own countries. The Cuban Missile Crisis relations got much better after the agreements were finished in stabilizing the situations in Europe. The Quadripartite Agreement from Berlin in 1971 led to the two German states entering the United Nations in 1973. The Helsinki Accords agreed the Co-operation in Europe in 1975 which appeared to mark a tacit peace treaty to end the Cold War and World War II by the Conference on Security. Agreements that limited the nuclear arms race were also finished. The conflict between the superpowers kept on going even through this era of this easing, as of tension between competitors. From this perspective, the Cold War was a traditional great power conflict in which ideological rivalry was essentially secondary and the structural constraints of bipolarity crucial in throwing the two sides apart. A second explanation, sometimes called the orthodox or liberal interpretation, stresses the American desire for a return to a much more limited internatio nal role after the Second World War. In 1985, an executive from PepsiCo came to Apple and took over the title of CEO from Steve Jobs. Jobs still remained with the Apple and became the new CEO’s mentor. This lasted until there was a power struggle between the two, which lead to the board directors of Apple, and the CEO agreeing to avoid Jobs risky plan for Apple future at that time. This difficult battle ended with Jobs leaving Apple. Fromm 1990 to 1993 the company underwent several CEO changes and many of the top management thought it would be best for Apple to merge with a competitor but after no merge took place many of the top executives left Apple. Who am I? What is it that defines that personality? Anzaldua argues in her essay that the language is what defines one’s identity. Language is indeed an important component of culture, and culture is known to be a crucial definer of identity. People use language to connect to their identities and communicating their realities and values to themselves and to the world around them†¦ In other words, language is important because people use it to express their thoughts and beliefs. â€Å"People evolve a language in order to describe and thus control their circumstances† (Baldwin 109). Consequently, language does not necessarily define identity as much as identity defines language. People decide on what language to use in order to communicate with their communities according to their identities. One’s identity defines and regulates the use of language and not the contrary. People speak different languages; this difference is used to identify and distinguish between different people, different ethnicities and races. The human need to belong to a group makes them abide to a specific language and dialect that represents their specific community and differentiate it from the rest. Language is what connects people to their communities; they are directly connected to people who speak the same language as them. Anzaldua argues that â€Å"Ethnic identity is twin skin to linguistic, I am my language† (Anzaldua 136), which strongly supports the fact that language is used to ensure that people belong to group. Talking the same language and using the same expressions defines to which group people belong to, it also evaluates the truthfulness of the affiliation. â€Å"Until I can take pride in my language, I cannot take pride in myself†, which basically states that language shapes one’s identity. This statement however, does not apply to all situations and communities and is certainly not constant. There are people who cannot identify to a specific group but rather to a variety of communal affiliations. Most people speak multiple languages; each language connects them to a specific culture and group of people. Tan clearly mentions in her story that she had to speak two different languages to her Asian mom who had her own made up English. Tan relates to both her Asian descent and American belongings by using her mom’s made up English to speak with her mom, and uses the proper English to give lectures and speak to most Americans. On the same grounds, Anzaldua learned through her life experiences to frequently use multiple types of English, and many other Dialects of proper Spanish and Mexican Spanish. She uses each language to communicate, connect and affiliate to specific people according to their background. This proves that the assumption that language defines culture and identity fails. What happens to the people who speak many languages, do they not get the benefit and pride of belonging to a certain community? Rather the contrary, they belong to multiple communities and they choose which group they want to communicate with and with which language. People have the ability to switch from a language to another to be part of a group and this supports the idea that identity defines and shapes language, and not the opposite. Language is used as a way to identify with people, but it is also used to distinguish between them. People use language to differentiate between people and associate them to a specific culture and community according to the language they speak. America is known for having a diverse population, and people are identified based on their language; Mexicans can be recognized to be Mexicans because of their accents even though they might be Caucasian. Tan argues that her mom spoke broken English that limited the people’s perception of her capacities. â€Å"People in department stores, banks, restaurants, did not take her seriously† (Tan 144)which strictly proves that people who do speak the proper language of the specific group they happen to be in generates a different treatment than that a true English speaker. Baldwin denounces that black Americans are treated differently than white Americans because they speak English with a different accent. When speaking â€Å"Black English, you have confessed your parents, your youth, your school, your salary, your self-esteem, and, alas, your future† (Baldwin 110) according to Baldwin. People associate language with background which then leads to choose to treat that specific person a talk to him a way they associate with the people who speak that exact same language. In this case, for the minority, it is language that assumes their behavior, but for the other dominant group, it is identity that shapes behavior. It is their identity that tells them that a specific language must be allocated with that specific type of person and then treat them in the way it is conventions set. People speak a specific language because it is in their identity to do so, and they choose to treat people differently according to language. This allows me to conclude that identity defines language, and language triggers behavior. Language is a major crucial component of our everyday life; it is used to differentiate between different categories of people, connect with one each group, and then choose how they will address those people. People argue that it is language that defines which type of person you are and shapes your identity. The arguments and the authors I quoted obviously proved the contrary, and stated that it is one’s identity that sets up and decides on the language used. However the question still remains: is human cloning morally wrong, sinful, and dangerous? Cloning as a danger to Life Cloning possibly will appear like a new means to generate human life, not destroy it. However a closer look exposes its darker side. Animal trials show that any attempt to use human cloning for reproduction will have several sufferers. About over 90 percent of cloned embryos miscarry or are stillborn. The first successful cloned sheep Dolly was the sole survivor out of 277 attempts. Those hardly any who endure to birth have severe medical problems. First, genetic engineering is such a hit-and-miss method that one should be able to copy one’s rare successes. Next, if scientists can make a new being who is accurately as same as another, they can purify their method to create that new being the same except for one or 2 superior traits, and then build on this. The human species itself would be the laboratory bench and the investigate animal for such experiments. Unfortunately, a lot of scientists became blind to the paradox in this magnificent scheme. When the true God creates people in His image and reproduction, He produces an infinite variety of people who reproduce special facets of His endless goodness. (John, 2000) When we simple humans attempt to do the same, we only replicate one narrow set of traits previously provided to us in the history? And when we attempt to get better on that inheritance, all we can apply are our own narrow, prejudiced and defective ideas of an enhanced human. By striking those biases on our issue, we would still treat them as objects we can manage and govern, still if we are trying to create a better product. These new powers for controlling the species are not a net increase of power for humankind; they are ways for a small number of imperfect humans to exercise control over a lot of other humans and the expectations of humankind. (Leon, 2002) To imagine we are prepared for such power above all humans is to commit the ultimate sin of arrogant satisfaction that the Greeks called hubris, the pride of grasping at what belongs only to gods. Although some sensible person can notice the destructiveness of such pride, Christians know especially that the road to human development is paved in its place by humble service to others.
